Wonderlight, also known as the Fist of the Gods, is a sentient magical warhammer.

Originally designed by Zac Erikson for his one-shot campaign, the Mines of Madness, the weapon was found by Sister Zoop Timbers and has become her symbol for divinity and conquest.

Stats

  • Damage: 1D8 bludgeoning; Versatile (1d10).
  • Any creature that has attuned to this weapon may wield it as though they were proficient with warhammers.
  • Attuned creatures may use their STR or WIS modifiers when attacking with this weapon.
  • Divinely charming - Once per long rest, the wielder may spend a bonus action to channel Wonderlight's unbelievably charming personality. This allows the wielder to add 1D8 to a Persuasion, Deception, or Performance check.
  • Light of the Gods - As a bonus action, you may either activate or deactivate the light emanating from the gem core of Wonderlight.
  • Behold the Might of the Gods - Once per long rest, you may channel the might of Wonderlight to cast a spell (3rd level or lower) from either your Domain Spells (cleric) or Oath Spells (paladin) without spending a spell slot. When casting a spell this way, the wielder must raise Wonderlight overhead and yell "By the power of Wonderlight, behold the might of (insert deity name here)!" In addition to the spell being cast, a light is emitted from Wonderlight's core to a 30' radius and dim light to 60' radius until the start of your next turn.

Basic

Here's how it starts.

Converted

After being converted/attuned, this magic weapon has slightly different abilities. It gets better.

Appearance

Wonderlight is adorned with a rich, dark leather braided handle, a polished metallic finish, and features a large head with a clear gem-like window on each side, allowing people to peer inside. The weight and durability do not seem to be affected by the appearance of its interior.

Sentience

Wonderlight is a sentient Neutral Good aligned weapon with an Intelligence of 10, Wisdom of 8, and Charisma of 16. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. The weapon can speak, read, and understand Common, and can communicate with its user telepathically.

Personality

The hammer speaks with a resonating, sultry male voice not unlike that of prized actor Patrick Warburton. When he speaks, he gives an air of sophistication, arrogance, and cluelessness. Wonderlight is driven to empower its wielder to attain accolades, glory, and honour through "conquering the forces of evil". In particular, Wonderlight sees undead, demons, and devils as "gifts the universe has granted us to show how awesome we are." Wonderlight sees itself as a hero destined for greatness, and while both helping others and accolades are important to it, if it was forced to choose it would choose the latter.

Enhancements

After being immersed in the Forge of Souls in the Phandelver mine, Wonderlight was upgraded. Now, when casting any healing spell with Wonderlight as the spell focus, the spell does at least 1/2 strength or more (all die rolls below half are re-rolled).
