The Bind is the name of a source of magic in the game, an omnipresent energy that all could access. The Bind was blocked at some point and access became limited to certain magic user types.
It is also a blatant rip-off of the Force. This is cool because even fantasy worlds need more access to Star Wars and it's lore.
